       Miastko, in north-western Poland, about 70 kms from the Baltic Sea is the starting point of Magam Trophy. For 5 days in May, it is the center of attraction in the fight for 4x4 supremacy. This is one of the oldest off-road events in the country and certainly one of the toughest. It has to be, since the event is also the eliminator for the Rainforest Challenge (RFC) of Malaysia. It was established in 2001 by Wojtek Golebiowski, a passionate off-roader who’s the owner of Magam Sp with its headquarters in Lodz.

       Each day is divided into stages, usually from 30 to 50 kms long. The teams have a time limit to complete the day using road books. Traversing swamps, 50-70 degree slopes, deep water, sand and rocks are all part and parcel of going through the paces here, all under natural terrain. For the extreme class, there is no option but to pass through the entire route. Only the adventure class can do a by-pass at the most difficult sections. Throughout the 5 days of the competition, there is no let-up in the rush of adrenalin, drama and action as the teams tackled the stages fully focused. A loose in concentration and error in judgment will result in getting either a top three position or bottom three. However, at the end of the day, it was off-road boding and camaraderie again at the base camp.

       For Marcin Lukaszewski and Magdalena Duhanik (male/female team) in the extreme class, they have done it again, by winning Magam Trophy three times in a row! Now, that’s a record that is hard to beat. Their consistency, driver and navigator teamwork, strategy, tactics, understanding the ground conditions and knowing what their machine can and cannot do at certain sections are among the characteristics that helped them to be the rightful champions of Magam Trophy again. For such extreme sports, it’s always the combination of a well prepared machine and the human software to propel it to victory. The adventure class was won by Tomasz Zygarlicki and Zbigniew Helowicz. For all participants, it was another worthy and memorable thrills and spills fought out in an unforgettable 4x4 battle here at Miastko.
